When an Online Therapist can help

Life in Gauteng is demanding. And it is easy to get to a point in your life where your situation is just too muach to handle on your own… where you feel:

  • Like you’re overwhelmed and barely keeping your head above water
  • Exhausted by inner battles (like anxiety, fear, anger) you find hard to control any longer
  • Burdened by trauma and old, emotional wounds from the past
  • Isolated in your pain or struggles
  • Unsure how to cope or where to turn

When that happens, it really helps to talk to someone who’s trained to walk the journey with you — someone who gets it. And can help you.

That’s where I come in.

The online therapies I provide are proven ways to find relief, support, and direction.

Individual Online Therapy

When working with individuals, narrative counseling is my preferred mode of therapy. It assumes that you are the EXPERT on your own your life! And places your experience in central position of importance. My job, then, is to help you to understand your own life story and rewrite it in wayss that help you to move forward.

Couples Online Therapy

Working with couples has some unique challenges. While studying to be a couple therapist, I was introduced to Sue Johnson’s widely acclaimed Emotional Focussed Therapy. And immediately new that this was the best therapy to help couples find a new bond and rebuild their relationship.

What research says about online therapy…

If you’ve been wondering whether online therapy is as effective as seeing someone in person — the short answer is: yes!

In fact, research shows it can be just as effective, and in some cases, even better.

Here’s an example:

A while back, researchers at the University of Zurich did a study with people who were struggling with moderate depression. They divided 62 people into two groups — one group had regular face-to-face therapy, and the other did online therapy. Both groups worked with trained therapists over eight sessions.

What happened?

Both groups improved a lot — but the online therapy group actually showed slightly better results. By the end of the treatment, over half of the people in both groups no longer showed signs of depression. But three months later, even more people in the online therapy group had improved — 57% compared to 42% in the in-person group.

And guess what? People doing therapy online felt just as connected to their therapists as those meeting face to face. Nearly all said it felt personal and supportive.

One thing that stood out: people in the online group often re-read their therapist’s messages or notes between sessions, which helped the therapy sink in even more deeply.

So yes — online therapy isn’t just a backup option. It’s a powerful, proven way to get support, make progress, and feel better.
